The Truth About the New Supply

When you find yourself discarded by a narcissist who has immediately moved onto someone else, you feel like your heart has been ripped out of your chest. You can’t make sense of how someone who claimed to have loved you could hurt you in ways you can’t even describe and automatically be in love with someone else. They walk around like you never mattered and that they are more in love with this new person than they ever were with you. The truth is they aren’t, they are just in love with the supply.

In romantic relationships with a narcissist, a new supply is the next victim. They don’t see them as a person with emotions or a soul. They are just a supply. Someone to feed their ego and to keep them from being alone with their hollow selves. Someone who gives them that validation that they so desperately need to breathe. Someone who makes them look desirable. And also, someone who they can parade around you to hurt you.

The new supply is the next partner. The next victim to be pulled into the narcissistic abusive cycle. This person is not yet aware of who the narcissist really is. They don’t know the truth about what they did to you. You were the “crazy ex" and the narcissist so desperately needs someone to see them as the victim. The new supply doesn’t see the red flags, because they are trying so hard to not be like the ex. The ex '“was too much”, so they make themselves little to fit into the narcissist's life. The ex was “too jealous”, so they don’t follow their gut when they feel like something is wrong. The new supply is being conditioned to take on the role you once played. But this time, the narcissist is smarter at the game. They’ve had experience with gaslighting, manipulation, being in control, and finding ways to make you feel utterly worthless. They are taking everything they have learned with you and will soon use it on the new supply.

But the new supply isn’t new at all. They are almost always lingering somewhere in the background. The narcissist can’t go without supply, so they groom them while they are devaluing you. The moment they found someone new, is the moment the devaluation started. They used this time to pick out your flaws and made you feel worthless. They took what they once loved about you and used it against you. They tell the new supply how completely terrible you are and how they are everything you are not. While they are ending the cycle with you, they are starting a brand new one with them. The new supply might have been in the background longer than you know. Or, you might have known that they were there all along. You just didn’t want to see it.

Chances are the new supply knew about you. They played a part in your abuse without even realizing it, thinking it was just destiny. They didn’t think of you as a person who was about to break. They played the game and did their part in hurting you. But when you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.

The new supply will believe all the stories the narcissists tells everyone. They will be their number one enabler and flying monkey. They will wonder how you could ever have been so evil, thinking that they are the narcissist’s savor.

The new supply is just that. New supply. They aren’t the person the narcissist will change for. They aren’t their soulmate. They aren’t better than you and in most cases, they are a total downgrade. They have just stepped into the role you were once in. Maybe they stumbled into that role without knowing who you were and are a true victim. Maybe they knew about you all along and were all too willing to allow the narcissist to destroy someone else.

The new supply is just the next person. Period. It can last weeks, years, maybe even decades, but they will find themselves in the same cycle. They might leave the cycle, or they might stay forever. It is no longer your concern. You have left the cycle and are learning to break free. So let the new supply find their own way out, especially if they made the choice to step into the cycle in the first place.
