The narcissist lives to call you “crazy”. They walk around telling everyone how completely insane you are and most people accept it as the truth.
As a society, we need to ask, “If they are crazy, what did you do to them?” People, like the flying monkeys, can see the destruction on the victim and still believe the narcissist who has already moved on unscathed. The narcissist depends on the flying monkeys to do their dirty work and tell everyone just how unstable you are.
Victims become part of a brutal smear campaign orchestrated by the narcissist. Their image is everything. And they’ll be damned if you take them down with the truth. Once you saw behind the mask, the narcissist had no other choice but to start to devalue and discard you. You looked too closely. You saw too much. Calling you crazy is part of the grand show they put on. They fear being seen by others and making their victims look crazy is just enough of a disguise to hide behind.
The narcissist is incapable of taking accountability. They will always play the victim in their version of the story. The misunderstood one, the hurt one, the one that tried so hard to save the relationship but couldn't because you were…..”crazy”! Narcissists project who they are and what they do onto their victims. They will tell everyone that you did exactly what they did to you. What they did to you was absolutely insane, so when they flip the script, you are left to look “unhinged”, “unwell”, “erratic”... whatever word the narcissist chooses to use that day.
Calling you crazy is the only defense they have because they fear anyone else knowing the truth. And then they gaslighting you into believing that you are actually crazy. It’s a win-win!! They need you to take on all the responsibility, they need to maintain their image of the “good guy”. And now that you have seen them, you will be punished. You have become useless to them, and the idea that you're “crazy” protects the monster they really are.
